BTA Drilling Tools

BTA drilling tools are a key element in the complete machining of work-pieces. These specialized tools are mounted onto long drill tubes and use multiple cutting surfaces to remove chips efficiently, exhausting them using high-pressure coolant through holes in the tool head.

These tool heads are either brazed or inserted carbide, and they come in many shapes and sizes. They are typically used for f19 and above to achieve high metal removal rates and depth-to-diameter ratios.

The main difference between BTA and gun drilling is that in BTA, the coolant flows outside of the tool; in gun drilling the coolant carries away chips along the inside of the tool. This makes BTA tooling more rigid and adapted to cutting holes with higher depth to diameter ratios than gun drills are designed for.

For these reasons, you should be sure to choose the right tools for your particular manufacturing applications. For instance, if you are producing parts with tolerances that are not easily met by conventional tools, then you need to work with your vendor’s application support to ensure you have the best possible cutting tool.
