A counterbore drill insert is an extremely specialized type of drill bit. Its main function is to make a larger cavity for the head of a screw or other fastener. They are most commonly used with flat-bottomed screws. They typically have two cutting radii, one for pre-drilling the hole, and one for creating the cavity.
