PCBN Inserts

PCBN grooving inserts can provide you with a smooth cut while boosting productivity in the process. The latest advances in the technology have led to a vast range of new and improved options on the market. Among them are the solid PCBN inserts, which are used in a wide variety of applications, from slotting and roll ring turning to automotive parts turning.

It can provide high-speed, efficient and high-precision groove cutting for non-ferrous metals, quenched steel, cast iron and other wear-resistant materials, and can carry out dry cutting and hard cutting.

A grooving insert is coded according to its specific cutting capabilities, with some having a V-shape clamping design and others having rail-shape designs. As such, these inserts are compatible with standard tool holders from other manufacturers.

The MGMN 200 PCBN is a 2mm wide grooving insert designed for the hardened steel and machining industries. Compared to diamond, PCBN has a higher content of the noble metal, ensuring a longer life and better performance. Another example is the PCBN tipped insert, which features a unique wiper geometry and increased feed rates during finish facing operations.

Other noteworthy PCBN grooving inserts is a surprisingly smooth cutting grade designed to groove hard ISO H materials. Its T-land is a tad on the large side, but its 50 per cent PCBN content means a smoother cut. This grade is also good for the ISO-H group, which includes nickel-based and cobalt-based alloys.
