CNC Insert Used on Lathe Machine
The CNC insert used on lathe machine is a cutting tool that has a sharp cutting edge that performs the machining operation. These tools can be either left-hand or right-hand and are used for turning a wide range of materials.
There are many types of CNC inserts that can be used on lathe machines, including carbide, micrograin carbide, CBN, ceramic, cermet, cobalt, diamond PCD, high-speed steel, and silicon nitride. They are often coated to increase wear resistance and longevity.
These inserts are commonly available in several shapes. One style, called the B-type, has a tip at each corner that is angled away from the nose of the tool. This allows the tool to cut in a wider angle than a square-shank insert, which has a straight tip at each corner.
Another style, called the A-type, has a flat tip at each corner that is angled toward the center of the tool. This design can minimize cutting force and maximize the strength of the edges, the company says.
Both insert styles are described as “all-directional turning solutions,” meaning they can cut conventionally in the direction of their axis while also cutting in the opposite direction, from a work-piece end toward the chuck, as on a shaft secured by a tail stock. Both are aimed at producing a smooth surface for the final finish on the work-piece.
